Course overview
DJ Skills In Depth will teach you everything involved in the Essential DJ Skills and Creative DJ Skills courses. From the fundamentals of what it takes to become a DJ such as technical aspects and music theory, to complex techniques such as harmonic mixing, acapella mixing, effects, scratching techniques, and much more. You’ll learn how to record, edit, and perfect a DJ mix using a DAW, so you will be able to create professional-sounding mixes for a range of scenarios (promotion, guest radio slots etc.). You’ll learn tips and tricks for establishing/maintaining a DJ brand and getting DJ gigs from professionals with a wide range of experience, as well as how to use Pioneer DJ’s Rekordbox software (in Performance mode) and how to utilise its creative features such as sample players, cue points and loops confidently during performances.

What is My Schedule?
Each module requires your attendance in one weekly masterclass which will be 2 hours long. The masterclasses take place between 7-9 pm UK time and will be on the same day each week. The masterclass day will be confirmed a week before the start of each term, but all classes are recorded and archived, so you can watch them back whenever it suits you if you can’t attend live. You will also be able to book five 1-2-1 sessions with your lecturer per module per term for additional support – these take place in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 and 11 of your course.

There are no academic requirements for this course. This course or programme is practical, and therefore aimed at those who wish to develop their skills to a professional standard.

This module provides students with a solid foundation across a range of DJ skills. You will develop knowledge of fundamental DJ techniques and music theory in order to perform cohesive mixes and develop the confidence to play live in the genre/s of your choice. Creative DJ Skills will encourage creativity and experimentation in the approach to DJ-ing and equip you with performance and editing skills for a range of scenarios. You will develop knowledge of audio effects, harmonic mixing, acapella mixing, and scratching techniques, and develop confidence in performing using a range of creative DJ techniques and tricks. The module will introduce key creative DJ concepts and allow you to enhance your existing skills. You will also develop skills in recording, compiling, and editing DJ mixes, including creating bespoke idents/DJ drops and learning how to fix errors in mixes.
This module will encourage creativity and experimentation in the approach to DJ-ing and equip you with performance and editing skills for a range of scenarios. You will be encouraged to develop a critical understanding of a range of creative DJ techniques and principles. You will develop knowledge of audio effects, harmonic mixing, and acapella, as well as practical skills in the application of these in a DJ context. You will develop confidence in the live performance of music using a range of established creative DJ techniques.
The module will introduce key creative DJ concepts and allow you to enhance your existing practical skills using industry-standard DJ hardware. You will also develop transferable skills in recording and editing using a DAW, as well as critical listening skills, which will be relevant to a range of professional scenarios.
