The MSc Information Security Management aims to develop your technical competences in information assurance, incident management, information governance alongside the enhancement of your leadership skills and ability to contribute to the development of organisational information security strategies, board-level risk and crisis management strategies.

Entry requirements
- Minimum 2:2 or above from a recognised university in any discipline (except Cyber Security)
- Professional qualifications that are equivalent to an honours degree
Non-standard entry requirements
- Relevant qualifications and/or work experiences, such as CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, (ISC)2, Amazon AWS or any other related certifications, will be taken into consideration where the applicant has the judged potential to benefit from the programme. Requests will be considered on an individual basis by the Programme Leader and relevant module tutors where appropriate.
Assessment
The assessment for this programme is 100% coursework, with examples including report writing and tangible pieces of work such as a programme or database, portfolio and a final project.
Delivery
You’ll be taught using a range of methods such as workshops, tutorials, directed study and discussion forums, and led by experienced lecturers and academics who use their industry and research experience to demonstrate how the theories, tools, technologies and methods you will learn on the programme translate into real-life situations.
For each module, you can expect 24 hours of overall contact time delivered through interactive workshops and face-to-face classroom sessions. This will be supported by a minimum of 12 hours of guided tutor learning which can be delivered virtually, examples include tutorials, tutor-led collaborative exercises with peers, discussion forums and video presentations.
Subjects
In this module, you will learn about the information governance and cyber security principles that underpin the management of an organisation’s information assets. In doing so, you will critically analyse the key concepts, theories, standards and frameworks of information governance and security, including risk management.
This will enable you to evaluate an organisation’s or the one in which you work, their current approach to information governance and cybersecurity and to advise on the design and implementation of an appropriate strategy for managing an organisation’s information assets to meet legal, regulatory, organisational and/or societal needs for information governance and cybersecurity.
In this module, you will develop new knowledge and skills in leadership in a digital context. These capabilities are essential for your career development as they enable you to become competent at the visioning, development and deployment of technological strategies and responses to challenges and opportunities in complex organisational environments.
This module will provide you with an in-depth knowledge of the processes used in assuring the security of information during use, sharing, storage, transmission and disposal.
This is a specialist module and is designed to provide you with an understanding of how to create a comprehensive framework for ensuring the resilience of business activities during cyber threats and disruptive events. This will enable you to assess potential cybersecurity risks to the business alongside how to mitigate disasters or emergencies.
As a professional working in information security, it is imperative you maintain an up to date knowledge and understanding of contemporary research and practice, and this is the focus of this module. This module is designed to allow you to explore a contemporary information security management issue that is relevant to you or the organisation in which you work.
The module aims to allow you to explore this question and consider the implications of if its impact as well as the alternative strategies that could be considered to mitigate or avoid its consequences.
This module will provide in-depth and research-informed knowledge on incident management to mitigate against cyber-attacks that could lead to loss of or disruption to, an organisation’s operations, services or functions.
In addition, you will develop competencies to complete a literature review, critical thinking and reflection skills. This will prepare you to contribute to the development of a professional organisation, hence further improving your career prospects.
This module is designed to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to complete a postgraduate research project which is relevant to Information Security Management and career or future aspirations.
As such, in the early part of your studies, you will work closely with careers and professional development specialists to consider your career or future learning opportunities post completion of your degree. You will subsequently develop a career plan and reflective log considering how your learning from the programme can accelerate the achievement of this plan.
