Day 1 – Understanding the art of public speaking

10:00 – 11:00 What is the objective of the speech? – By focusing on what our objective is and who our audience is, we will be better able to structure the speech for maximum impact. Part of our preparation should involve profiling our audience. Are they still in education, in industry, part of a social group, or retired? This is important if we are to make our speech relevant to them. We also need to consider how we will build the story to keep them engaged.

11:15 – 13:00 Structure and Technique – By understanding breath control, pausing, stance and attitude we can better control both ourselves and our audience response

14:00 – 15:00 Practise – An opportunity to start to put the theory into practise and receive feedback

15:15 – 16:00 Practise 2 – Translating the feedback into action.
