About Nursing

Nursing in the UK has become a demanding and growing field – leading to easier access to nursing colleges in the UK and London, yet still maintaining a competitive entry. Despite requirements for nursing courses at a high level, there are pathways to this rewarding field. With such a wide variety of areas and environments to specialise in and a range of positions including nursing assistant, clinical nurse, nurse unit manager or practitioner, this might be the career change you’ve been looking for.

How to Become a Nurse in the UK

In this growing field, nurses are in more demand than ever. As there is a shortage in NHS, whilst many come from school to complete a nursing degree, more than a third of new students are older than 21. This means that access to nursing courses has become easier over time and that students can gain a qualification in nursing without a large number of prerequisites that were once necessary.

To become a nurse in the UK, you will need to successfully complete a degree, as well as register yourself with the nursing and midwifery council (NMC) and make sure you are DBS checked. However, if you do not have the qualifications to start your nursing career, such as the appropriate A-levels or recognised education, institutes such as Stonebridge UK offers pathways to achieve a new career in Nursing. Offering the Access to Higher Education Diploma of Health (Nursing Level 3 Pathway), completion of this flexible nursing diploma will enable you to meet the standard UK requirements to complete a nursing course of your choice.

Requirements to Study Nursing in the UK

To be eligible to study nursing in the UK, entry requirements for diplomas, degrees and other courses depend on the university itself as each has its own entry criteria. With large competition for acceptance, many courses will specify the prerequisite A-level or equivalent Level 3 qualifications, as well as well performed GCSE results in commonly English, maths a science subjects. It is preferred that an entrant has successfully completed a science such as biology or a social science like psychology, as these are fundamentals in the field of nursing and not just entry requirements. However, some universities may offer a foundation year for those who do not meet entry prerequisites.

Nursing Assistant

Also known as Nursing Aids, an assistant helps patients with basic health care and/or daily life activities such as eating, bathing, and transport. Commonly providing clinical care for patients in hospitals or for residents of care facilities, such as nursing or retirement homes, a nurse needs patience and a kind heart to physically and mentally support all kinds of people.

Nursing assistant courses can be concluded online or through in-class training, qualifications can come in the form of a diploma, certificate and executive diploma.
