About Criminology

Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behaviour, with a focus on the social science of crime and the impact it has on individuals and communities. Criminology focuses on collecting and analysing data, as well as creating internal and external reports. There is also a large social element, with psychology frequently being used to add further information to your data and knowledge. Your skills can be used either for the criminal justice system, public services or to help social policy.

Having higher education qualifications in criminology puts you in a unique position to take on various jobs on the outskirts of law, as well as positions that see you helping out in the wider community such as in the police, as a youth worker, or working in mental health.

A qualification in criminology also puts you in a strong position when looking to branch out into law (whether it’s criminal law or something broader such as human rights), helping you to become a solicitor or a paralegal.
