How Do I Become Xero Certified?
Becoming Xero certified will enable you to use the core features of Xero with confidence. You’ll learn how to set up clients, carry out common tasks and get the most out of the software. You can become Xero certified in two main ways; via the Xero website or via an alternative provider.
Becoming Certified via the Xero Website
Step one in the certification process involves becoming a Xero partner. To do this, simply fill in a form on the website and a Xero rep will give you a call to explain your study options. There are four choices:
Complete a number of online courses
Xero’s online training courses involve bite-sized lessons that you can complete in any order. Each lesson features an introduction, an overview, sections of content, an assessment and a summary. You can study at your own pace and even reset any questions that you answer wrongly.
Watch webinars
You’ll need to put aside a day to take part in Xeros live webinars, as they run for two and a half hours in the morning and afternoon, with a break for lunch. Once you’ve finished learning and passed the assessment you’ll know how to use all of the software’s core features.
Take part in live classrooms
Xero’s live classroom options last for 8 hours and include completing an assessment. You’ll receive tuition on all of the main functions from setting up to reporting.
Complete a fast track assessment
Aimed at experienced Xero advisors who haven’t yet gained certification, this one-hour assessment can only be attempted once and you’ll need to get 80% of the questions correct. If you don’t, you’ll have to complete the full certification programme. Your progress is saved as you go in case of unexpected interruptions!
Becoming Certified via an Alternative Learning Provider
If you’re looking to learn Xero at your own pace and you want access to tutor support and flexible payment plans, you could apply for a certification course with an alternative learning provider.
For example, the Career Academy runs intermediate and advanced level certifications in Xero. These take around 15 hours to complete but can be studied online and at your own pace. The academy also offers a 40-hour diploma which includes a certificate, an advanced certificate and official Xero advisor certification.

What Happens After Certification?
Once you’ve obtained your Xero certification you’ll need to complete quarterly product updates which include some assessment questions. These are delivered by webinar.
