The Level 3 Diploma for Working in the Early Years Sector is a professional qualification that prepares you to become an Early Years Educator (EYE). It focuses on developing your knowledge, skills, and understanding to work with children from birth to five years, and to understand children up to seven years. This program goes beyond basic care, aiming to develop you into a critical, reflective, and ethical practitioner. The curriculum is grounded in an ecological systems perspective and integrates contemporary neuroscience into practice. What you'll learn

  • You will gain a comprehensive understanding of pedagogy, child development, and professional practice. The diploma emphasizes developing your professional judgment and ethical decision-making. You will learn to:

  • Understand Child Development: Explore patterns of development, including physical, cognitive, neurological, and emotional milestones from conception to age seven. You will also learn about attachment theory and the significance of the Key Person Approach.

  • Apply Safeguarding and Health Knowledge: Learn about your legal and professional responsibilities in safeguarding, including understanding different types of harm and following reporting procedures. You will also learn to implement health, safety, and infection control procedures.

  • Master Communication and Curriculum: Understand how communication and language are the "cornerstone" of the early years curriculum and how to support children's language development. You will also learn to plan and promote an effective curriculum that is responsive to children's needs.

  • Promote Effective Learning through Play: Study the role of play in holistic development and learn to plan, lead, and evaluate play opportunities in an early years setting.

  • Conduct Formative Assessment: Learn to use observation and assessment to understand a child's progress and use that information to adjust your curriculum and plans.

  • Build Professional Partnerships: Understand the importance of developing and maintaining good relationships with parents, colleagues, and other professionals to meet children's needs.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed through an internally assessed and externally quality-assured portfolio of evidence. Units are graded as achieved/not yet achieved. The portfolio will include written reports, reflective accounts, and practical evidence from your workplace, supported by witness statements.
