Course overview

A complete, self-paced GCSE Maths course covering the full grades 1–9 range. It teaches through 115+ hand-built interactives — drag the coefficients of a quadratic and watch the roots change, share a ratio and see the bars redraw, rotate a shape on a live grid. Every lesson is a full loop: a hook, multi-step worked examples you can replay, a live interactive to explore, and instant-feedback quick-checks that explain the misconception, not just “wrong.”

Foundation and Higher are both included — no upgrade wall. Foundation learners get the full Higher content to stretch into. One purchase, one login, everything unlocked, with a scientific calculator built into every page.

Built to the shared Ofqual national standard, so it is the right course whether the school sits AQA, Edexcel, OCR or Eduqas. Reviewed by a practising GCSE examiner.

Who's It For?

  • School & college students — working towards GCSE Maths alongside school on any board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR or Eduqas).
  • Resitting GCSE Maths — learners who narrowly missed a grade 4 and want a clear, structured retake path.
  • Adults returning to maths — those who need GCSE Maths for a job, university or teacher training, studying around work at their own pace.
  • Parents & home educators — supporting a child through GCSE Maths or home-schooling, using the course as a core scheme of work.

Professional Recognition

Content reviewed by a Pearson Edexcel GCSE, IGCSE and KS2 examiner with over 14 years' teaching experience. The course is built to the shared Ofqual national standard for GCSE Mathematics and is suitable for all major UK exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas.

Assessment

The course itself does not include the official GCSE exam. The official exam can be added as an optional extra at checkout, with Career Smarter arranging a place as a private candidate at an approved UK exam centre when the learner is ready to sit it.

Additional information

Instructor: Phil Hulme — a professional UK maths teacher with over 14 years' experience across state, independent and top international schools. He is a GCSE, IGCSE and KS2 examiner, including for Pearson Edexcel, and also teaches IGCSE, IB, KS3 and KS2. Course last reviewed and updated June 2026.

GCSE Maths vs GCSE Mathematics: "GCSE Maths" is the everyday name for the qualification that appears on exam specifications and certificates as GCSE Mathematics — the same course, the same exams and the same grades 9–1.

Grade information: Grades run from 9 (highest) to 1. A grade 4 is a standard pass and a grade 5 a strong pass; most employers and courses require at least a grade 4.

Subjects

The course is structured across 18 modules, covering Foundation through to exam-ready Higher content. Each module contains multiple lessons delivered as complete learning loops: real-life hook → replayable worked examples → live interactive → instant-feedback quick-checks.
