1. It opens up your career options

Whichever sector you are interested in, whether it’s retail, advertising or IT, studying business can prepare you for a range of roles, You can even combine your love of business with another interest of yours. If you love animals, for example, you can take on a business management role at an animal shelter.

Alongside learning practical business skills such as statistics, marketing and budgeting, you will learn how to work well within a team and gain excellent communication and management skills. These are valuable in every workplace, which is why a business degree is one of the top 5 most desired qualifications for employers across all sectors.

Even if you don’t work in the business management side of a company understanding the organisational side of things will help you to understand how your role fits into the business as a whole.

Unrelated careers which aren’t in the field of business and management directly can also greatly benefit your employability, as business courses include many transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving skills and decision making.

Top Transferable Skills

  • Public Speaking & Presenting
  • Communication & Team-Working
  • Time Management
  • Interpreting Financial Data
  • Critical/Analytical Thinking
  • Decision Making & Problem Solving

2. You can specialise in a range of areas

If you are primarily interested in one business area, such as project management, accountancy or business administration, you can choose to specialise further. There are various courses available both online and in institutions all over the UK, so you can enjoy the flexibility of choosing what to study and also fit your study around your current work and life commitments.

Some of the business courses available here at Courses Online include a Level 5 Diploma in Business and Management, a Higher National Diploma in Business, Accounting and Finance, and you can even enrol in an MBA program.

These are just a few examples of business courses available, many of which can be done entirely online so you can save money on travel and accommodation, maintain your current commitments and learn all about business at a pace that suits you.

3. You’ll reap the financial rewards

It’s no secret that businesses like to make money, and if you work for a successful company you might take home a hefty paycheck. Suppose you are an integral part of the business, such as a business manager or a team leader. In that case, you can enjoy a salary of around £30K to £50K per year, with some business graduates earning up to £70K annually.

Of course, it’s not all about the finances, but it is always nice to be rewarded for your hard work and in the business world, this is often a lot easier. If you love meeting targets and seeing your bank account active, then business management may be for you.

Due to the financial rewards, there is also the possibility of more work/life balance, as you have the funds and ability to travel or do activities with the family to allow for a proper break from work when you need it.

4. You can be your own boss

If you have always dreamed of going on Dragons Den, have an excellent business idea or are an aspiring entrepreneur, then studying business can help you achieve your dream. Alongside learning about the basics of business, finance and management, a business course will teach you key things to succeed as an entrepreneur, such as networking, time management and pitching to external companies. Using these skills, you can build your own business plan and manage your dream business with some time and experience.

As well as this, assignments and teaching tools also tend to be very diverse, with group work activities, solo assignments and research essays.

6. You can take your skills abroad

Business courses don’t just teach transferable skills for you to take in other career paths, but skills that are in high demand worldwide. If you plan to be an international student and take your studies abroad, or even work in another country, then having a business background is greatly desired.
