Course overview
Involvement in international trade can often be an indication of a business having or gaining a competitive edge. It is a healthy business practice to look at the opportunities to import products to improve cost competition and take advantage of advanced technology. Similarly, developing an export business broadens a company’s market and diversifies risk.
This is a half-day course which is an introduction to the broad areas involved in import and export. The key components of the import process are covered with details on finding and selecting partners, terms of trade, commodity codes and customs procedure codes, valuation process, payment options and the border entry process. Plus additional factors involved in exporting, including exporter responsibilities, basic export documents, and export controls/ documentation. We finish with outlining an action plan to prepare or review a company’s approach to export and import.
The aim is to provide the basic building blocks for an understanding of the key points to international trade, whether an organisation is involved in import and/or export or both.
This course would typically be aimed at individuals and professionals who are at the start of their journey in understanding the basic components of customs and international trade.
