Course overview

This course combines knowledge-based learning with workplace evidence. Learners are expected to build a portfolio that demonstrates their understanding and practical competence across all mandatory units. Evidence may include written responses, workplace products, observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, learning logs and other suitable evidence from early years practice.

The qualification is internally assessed and internally quality assured by WLPC, with External Quality Support engagement from Highfield. Learners must complete all mandatory units to achieve the full qualification. Recognition of prior learning may be considered where suitable authenticated evidence is available.

This course is suitable for learners who want to work as a Level 3 Early Years Educator in England. It is also suitable for existing early years practitioners who want to gain a recognised Level 3 qualification to support career progression.

Entry requirements

Learners must be aged 16 or over. It is advised that learners hold a Level 2 qualification in English and maths, as literacy and numeracy requirements are set within the EYFS statutory framework.

Learners will also need access to a suitable early years setting so that practical workplace evidence can be produced.

WLPC may discuss placement, employment status, current experience and support needs during the admissions process to confirm that the learner is suitable for the programme.
