Assessment
The international certificate is assessed through a two-step process:
- IG1 – is an open-book examination that will assess what you know. It’s scenario-based and will include a closing interview in the weeks following your exam; you will be asked questions about your IG1 submission, but you will not be further assessed.
Click here to see NEBOSH’s current examination dates. TSW will book exam dates for you upon enrollment. - IG2 is a practical risk assessment element that assesses what you can do. It should take you around three hours to complete in your own time. In the IG2, you will complete a practical risk assessment based on your workplace, developing an action plan for your workplace – this is immediately useful and valuable.
Each NEBOSH Assessment is marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH for their experience and expertise.
Examination Results
Assessment results for open-book exams and practical assessments should be received within 50 working days from your examination date or the submission of your practical assessment. The specific date is written on your assessment registration confirmation.
Your qualification grade will be based only on the result of the IG1 unit question paper. However, you must achieve a ‘Pass’ in IG1 and IG2 units before your certificate can be issued.
The grading boundaries for IG1 are as follows:
- 75+ – Distinction
- 65-74 – Credit
- 45-64 – Pass
- 0-44 – Refer
Re-sitting Assessments
You may re-sit a unit assessment if:
- you achieved a ‘Pass’ in a unit that is five or more years old, and you need it to achieve the qualification;
- you are ‘Referred’ (ie, don’t pass) or
- want to retake Unit IG1 to get a higher grade (Unit IG2 is ‘Pass’ or ‘Refer’ and does not count towards the qualification grade).
There is no limit to how many times you can re-sit unit(s) within the five years allowed. A refund will not be given if you register to re-sit a unit before an original unit result is known.
If your re-sit result is lower than the original mark, you will keep the original mark awarded for the unit. Re-sit marks are not capped.
