How to Succeed as a Social Media Content Creator

by Joshua Stoneham

University clearing can sometimes be a stressful experience and feel quite daunting. But don’t worry, there are simple tips that you can follow to help you find your ideal course and move towards your thrilling next step in your education journey.

Read our top 5 tips and tricks that’ll make your clearing experience a total breeze.

What does a social media content creator do?

If you’re asking yourself, “what is a social media content creator”, the main crux of this role is creating content for social platforms, sometimes from scratch, for companies, or for your own brand/page.

When thinking about the difference between a social media manager and a content creator, you may be expected to do much more than just organise posts in a content creator role. You may be expected to have a large wheelhouse of skills that you can call upon when stepping into this content marketing role.

Depending on the platform and type of content, you may have to learn video editing skills, learn how to edit photos, and even brush up on your skills as a presenter. Being an all-around social media content creator can be more challenging than it sounds!

How can you become a successful social content creator?

You can take several steps to become a successful social content creator. You’ll have to get to grips with lots of different software and tools and gain a good understanding of how engagement algorithms work, which will help you work with your marketing team to come up with lots of ideas to fill up your content calendar.

If you’re keen to learn and put creativity at the heart of everything you do, you’ll be on your way to smashing it in this career field in no time.

Learn how to use each platform well

To be a great all-around social media content creator, you’ll need to get to grips with editing software.

If you’re working for a brand that features high-quality images or needs to adapt stock images into your brand’s style, having a knowledge of Photoshop is a must. You can learn skills in this area through an Adobe Photoshop course and get started.

Learning how to edit videos to a professional standard can also increase your clout as a social media content creator. Although some social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have their own video editing software built-in, uploading high-quality video content edited using professional software can help your content stand out.

Learning these skills through an Adobe Premiere Pro training course will boost your employability and make you a more attractive prospect for brands and businesses.

Before you get started on your journey as a social media content creator, you might want to brush up on your marketing knowledge. Knowing how to market a company and engage users using tried and tested methods will help you to create engaging content.

This extra learning can give you a good idea of how to get new content to a wide range of social media users and teach you the core principles of social media marketing. Explore marketing courses and see if there are any bits of extra knowledge you can use before getting started.

As a social media content creator, you’ll also spend a lot of your time crafting tweets, Instagram copy, and Facebook posts, so having experience as a content writer or taking on courses to build up your writing skills can be helpful.

Knowing this area can also help you contribute to a wider content marketing strategy by putting together long-form content that you can promote on your social media channels.

Last but not least, if you’re keen to get personally involved in the content you’re creating as a presenter, learning some basic presentation skills will be a big help.

Although being friendly and confident can usually be enough to make you a great presenter, learning how to pace yourself, engage your audience properly and keep them entertained are all things you can learn through taking a Public Speaking course.

Be open to working with a wide range of people and brands

Having a wide-ranging portfolio is important if you want to really stand out as a social media content creator. When we think of engaging social media content, it can be easy to think about entertainment, fashion, and sports brands, but there are a lot of other industries out there that need recognition too.

Don’t pigeonhole yourself, and be open to working for a wide range of companies and clients. Having experience engaging with a target audience that might be less social media savvy can bolster your CV as you can demonstrate that you can connect to people outside of your age bracket, interests, or previous work experience.

Follow your interests

In order to succeed as a social media content creator, if you follow your passions, you may find that you’ll have a more fulfilling and stable long-term career. Although it is a great idea to work with different companies to build up your experience, go for it if you feel you’re ready to talk about what you love.

If you’re going to be in front of the camera, being personally enthusiastic about the topics you’re talking about will help you to stand out.

Establish your own personal brand

This is a great approach for anyone who’s keen to work as a freelancer or run their own social media pages for profit. Some will have strong social networks that allow them to connect to a lot of people and share quality content with them.

Cultivating your own personal social media presence with great content can help you to gain experience building a following and learning the basic principles of good social media content creation.

Running your own personal pages outside of work can be a good way to try out new engagement techniques and content ideas in a low-risk environment.

The benefits of becoming a successful social content creator

Becoming a successful social media content creator can have many benefits. You’ll be able to interact with a growing number of users and get immediate feedback on your content and build a strong sense of community.

Typically, a social media content creator’s salary can be lucrative. Although it’s difficult to work out an average salary for social media content creators, salaries for marketing executives and other digital marketing roles can range from £20,000 to £50,000 a year.

Suppose you decide to work as a freelance social media content creator or work with brands as an influencer. In that case, you could see your wages increase significantly, depending on the size of the client or brand you’re working with and how much they would pay to be featured on social media posts.

Overall, it can be a fun and exciting journey to become a successful social media content creator. Although it can be a competitive field, if you’re willing to put in the work and learn the necessary skills, you can find a considerable amount of success in this career field.
