What support can I get from the IMechE?
As well as providing professional membership for those already in the industry, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers offers support to those who aren’t quite there yet. They have career guides for school students, an affiliate membership scheme for university students, a professional development scheme for graduates and an Apprentice Affiliate membership for apprentices. Each of these support networks is designed with you in mind, offering you the professional support and networking opportunities you need, whichever stage in your career you are currently at.
If you are looking for specific training opportunities and courses, then IMechE has you covered there too. They have a jam-packed training calendar, with short and long courses to help progress your career development. Some of their latest courses include:
- Project Leadership Course
- New Engineering Manager Course
- Pumping Fundamentals
- Financial Management
- Contract Law and Contract Drafting
- Communication and Influencing Skills
Many of these courses last only one to two days, so you don’t need to take time out in order to add to your career portfolio. They also offer support to those looking to become a chartered engineer (CEng) and guide you through the application process.
Many of these training courses additionally provide you with a qualification at the end of them, even if they are only two or three days long! With all workplaces now requiring a certain amount of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) for their staff, the IMechE is packed full of interesting and relevant courses to not only meet CPD requirements but also help you expand your skillset. These courses take place around the United Kingdom with locations in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Bristol, Sheffield and many more.
