GCSE Biology
Course overview
GCSE Biology is a Level 1/2 qualification awarded by AQA under specification 8461 (Ofqual QAN 601/8752/9, entry codes 8461F and 8461H). It comprises two externally examined 1-hour-45-minute written papers of 100 marks each, weighted 50% apiece, underpinned by ten required practical activities and graded 9 to 1.
The course is built for adults who need to pass, or improve, this qualification without going back into a school classroom. All teaching, revision material and practice papers are delivered online, so you can study at whatever pace suits your schedule.
Who's It For?
- Those who need a separate science GCSE at grade 4–6 for nursing, healthcare science, or A-Level Biology entry.
- Those who want the Higher tier route to grades 4–9, with AQA's allowed grade 3 if you just miss a 4.
- Those prepared to cover ten required practical activities, assessed through questions in both written papers.
- Those who want depth rather than breadth — separate Biology carries more weight than Combined Science for lab and NHS applications.
- Private or home-educated candidates; AQA accepts private candidates entering through an approved school or college in the UK.
